The Enugu State Independent Electoral Commission (ENSIEC)was established in 2001. The main functions of the Commission as provided by 1999 Constitution as amended and the Law is to organize, undertake and supervise all elections to Local Govt.

Enugu State Independent Electoral Commission (ENSIEC) came into being as an instrument of Government, through the State Independent Electoral Commission establishment Law 2000 No. 2 now section 3(1) Enugu State Law Cap 59 vol. III, Revised Laws of Enugu State of Nigeria 2004. The First Commission was inaugurated in 2001 for a five year tenure with Chief Willy Nnamani as the Chairman. Six months later Chief Nnamani was removed and HRH Igwe A. O. Nwobodo continued the Commission as the Chairman. His administration ran into two tenures, that is ten years. The second Commision was inaugurated in 2011 with Dr. Bonny Eneh as the Chairman. Hon. Mrs. Jane Eneh is the present Acting chairman of the Commission.

Enugu State have 17 Local Government Areas, 260 wardS and 2,958 polling units
